Community Packing Day - Saturday 9 December 2023
The Brisbane Basket Brigade Community Wrapping & Packing Day is back for 2023 and set to take place on Saturday 9 December at St Paul's School at Bald Hills. Please note we will be in the Walker Centre (number 67/68 on the SPS campus map) with parking available (number 5 on the SPS campus map) then just a short walk up the stairs next to the pool and around to the left to the venue.
PLEASE NOTE: There is no access to the Walker Centre on the tennis court side of the building.
We'd love you to join us to ensure that over 2,000 baskets of food and over 3,000 presents are sorted, wrapped and ready for delivery to a family or individual in the greater Brisbane community that has fallen on hard times or might be doing it tough this Christmas. Join us to let them know that they are not alone, to show that somebody cares and to remind them of the true spirit of Christmas.
Saturday is our traditional Packing Day with gift wrapping, food sorting & packing and preparing the baskets ready for delivery. We welcome children to our packing weekend and want to make sure that they also get to experience the joy of giving back at Christmas. If you are bringing a minor they MUST hold a valid ticket in their own name. To purchase a ticket for a minor please ensure that you complete the First Name section of the ticket to include your name as guardian/parent for (e.g. John Smith as parent/guardian for Jayne) and then complete the child’s last name in the last name field.
This year you also have the option to collect gifts and food baskets before you leave so you can deliver these on Sunday however YOU MUST SELECT THE DELIVERY OPTION (for the driver only) when selecting your tickets.
Please understand, you may only have the choice of one of the 8 zones we cater for and there may not be deliveries available in your preferred suburb however we are providing this option to avoid the necessity to travel back to our dispatch points on Sunday.
Below is a brief overview of the roles available on Saturday. While we certainly try to make sure you are allocated in your chosen role for your shift, we always request people take on other roles as the need arises.
-
PARKING ATTENDANTS AND GENERAL ROUSTABOUTS – this role will provide directions for vehicles doing Basket Buddy drop offs
-
REGISTRATION DESK ATTENDANTS – helping to check in our volunteers before each shift and provide general administrative assistance
-
DROP-OFF CREW – assisting our general roustabouts with Basket Buddy drop-off
-
GENERAL PACKING DAY VOLUNTEERS – a 4-hour shift where you could be doing a range of activities from wrapping and sorting gifts, sorting food and packing food bags, assembling and decorating gift boxes and/or preparing the gift boxes ready for delivery
