What is the Wishing Tree Program?

Our Wishing Tree program is our sister program to the Basket Buddies program. With each basket of food that our volunteer delivery drivers deliver to our recipient family or single we also include a box of presents, with at least one for each member of the family, including the family dog or cat, together with a book for every child aged between 1 to 11 years of age.

The committee works tirelessly all year to raise funds and source approximately 50% of our annual gift targets. The other 50% usually comes from corporate organisations, community groups and groups of individuals who host their own Wishing Tree programs to help us collect gifts to reach our targets. In 2019 and 2020 alone we wrapped, sorted and delivered over

28,000 gifts to our recipients throughout the greater Brisbane community.

Our gift categories are broken down as follows:

Setting up a wishing tree program can be as simple or elaborate as you choose. Upon registration we provide a link to our resource library that sets out some handy flyers and information sheets around the gift requirements and some helpful ideas.As a guide, each gift should be:

Age appropriate approximately $15-$20 value for general gifts, $5 per dog/cat gift
Items must be new (i.e. no second hand goods, including the book drive)
Gifts must contain no offensive, political or religious statements and no alcohol or gambling products.
No clothing. Accessories such as hats, socks and jewellery are ok
All gifts are preferred to be delivered unwrapped (or if wrapped then ensure they include a secure label with gender and age, e.g. Boy aged 5)
Multiple gifts in 1 parcel are ok. Just make sure that they are packaged together (but not wrapped).

Registrations opened on 1 September. In your registration you’ll be able to nominate your own targets for each relevant age group. This will help us to make sure that none of our recipients are missed. Remember to be realistic with your targets. If you need to amend your targets please reach out to the program coordinator as soon as possible and they can fix or update them for you.
